Langtang Valley Trek is the closest trekking trail from Kathmandu. This trek will take you to the beautiful Langtang region abundant in diverse vegetation, picturesque villages, and gorgeous scenery. Trekking in Langtang valley stats with a day drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubeshi (starting point of the trek). Syabrubeshi is a Tibetan village, which is inhabited by people of Tibetan origin. Moreover, once the route was an important trading highway with Tibet and Nepal, therefore, most of the villagers here still are involved in the trade that is more bartering.

The Langtang Valley Trek goes further up to the picturesque Langtang valley following the Langtang river valley. You reach Lama Hotel for your overnight stay. The trek then further continues to Langtang village and Kyanjin Gompa.

The Kyanjin Gompa is one of the famous destinations in the Langtang region. You have a day to explore the valley. You can go on a short excursion to Tsergo Ri. The trail then returns to Lama Hotel and descend to Syabru Gaun. From here, trek to Dhunche and drive back to Kathmandu.

Landscape & Mountain Views

The wonderful views of the Langtang region make it stand out among other regions of Nepal. Throughout the trail, you will be accompanied by breath-taking scenery. The trail goes through several beautiful & dense forests oak and rhododendrons. Similarly, you will see many snow-capped mountains like Langtang Himal, Yala Peak, Ghangchhempo, Morimoto peak, Pogen Dhopku, etc. On clear days, you might also see views of Mt. Annapurna and Ganesh Himal.

Rich Tamang Culture

Langtang region is dominated by people from the Tamang community. The trail includes many Tamang villages where you will get to experience the rich culture, tradition, and lifestyle of the Tamang people. They are said to be the descendants of Tibetans, therefore if you are known with Tibetan culture you will find many similarities.

Kyanjin Gompa

Kyanjin Gompa is one of the most famous and significant monasteries of Langtang region. This monastery is situated at the foothill of Langtang Lirung (7,227 m), Dorje Lakpa (6,966 m), and Langshisha Ri (6,427 m). Other than this, there are many monasteries that you will come across during the Langtang Valley Trek.

Tsergo Ri

During the Langtang Valley Trek 12 days, Tsergo Ri is the highest point that will touch. It is a famous vantage point from where you will get to see an excellent view of the surrounding landscape. You will also get to see outstanding views of moraines, glaciers, and Himalayan Mountains.

Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu airport and transfer to hotel

You will arrive at Kathmandu airport and met by our airport representative and transferred to hotel, evening free and overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

After having breakfast at hotel, we take you for the sightseeing tour in Kathmandu city that includes visit and tour of the Kathmandu Durbar Square, Monkey Temple, Pashupatinath Temple and Baudhanath Stupa, will return to hotel and you will have some free time to shop your trekking gear in Thamel area if you need.

After having early breakfast at hotel, we start our drive about 7 am in the morning and head north out of Kathmandu, driving through scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Syabrubensi, the first part of the drive up to Trishuli Bazaar is quite smooth, then the path moves along the gravel road, during the rainy season, the way is sometime blocked due to landslides.

After having breakfast at lodge, we start our trek and it is easy trekking for today, at first, the trail gradually ascends to Landslide (1810m.), afterwards, we trek ascends gently to Rimche (2400m.) through Bamboo (1960m.) and at the end of the trail is flat level path to the Lama Hotel, en route we could see red pandas and bear (we are lucky), and monkeys.

After having breakfast at lodge, we start our trek and there are occasional glimpses of Langtang Lirung between the trees while we trek through the Jungle, at Ghora Tabela (3000m), the trail emerges from the forest, and we will catch a glimpse of white monkeys and local birds, once there was a Tibetan resettlement project, but now it is a Nepalese army post though it has no permanent inhabitants, the trail continues to climb gently and the valley widens, passing a few temporary settlements used by herders who bring their livestock to graze in the high pastures during the summer months, check into the lodge.

After having breakfast at lodge, we start our trek and the trail climbs gradually through small villages and yak pastures as the valley opens out further, the views become more extensive now and it is short trek for today to Kyanjung, after crossing several small streams and moraines, the trail reaches the settlement at Kyangjin.

This is day to rest and explore the Kyanging area, we will visit the monastery and the cheese factory, walk up the moraine to see the spectacular ice faces and tumbling glaciers of Langtang Lirung or ascend Kyangjin Ri [4350m], directly behind the village, for a breath-taking panorama of the Langtang peak or we can make day trip to Tseguri.

After having breakfast at lodge, we start trek from Kyangjin, we retrace our trekking route, following the Langtang Khola to Langtang village and on to Ghora Tabela, the Aater lunch at Ghora Tabela, we continue the steep descent to Lama Hotel.

After having breakfast at lodge, we start our trekking descending to Land slide and the routes separates form here to the Syabru Gaun, we will take the upper route then, the trail ascends all the way to Syabru Gaoun, From here we will enjoy spectacular views of Langtang Lirung, Tibetan Himal ranges.

After having breakfast at lodge, we start our trek and today is the last day of our trekking and it is easy trekking to Dhunche, the first part we trek the flat and down through the forest of Rhododrendron and fine and the another part once we reach the road then we simply follow the road ascending to the Dhunche.

Best time to go on Langtang Valley Trek

The best time to go on Langtang Valley Trek is in spring and autumn. The weather usually stays stable, and the days are bright & sunny, perfect for trekking. However, the climate can get colder in the morning and at night time due to elevation.

In these two seasons, the forests get bloomed up with beautiful rhododendrons & oaks along with numerous other vegetation. And, the clear sky makes the views of the Himalayan Mountains more alluring.

Langtang Valley Trek difficulty

Langtang Valley Trek 12 days is an easy journey in the beautiful Langtang region. The trail is relatively easier than many other trails of Nepal in terms of steep and technical climbing. However, you have to walk 5 to 6 hours daily, and that does require a healthy body and good physical fitness.

Food & Accommodation during the trek

During the Langtang Valley Trek, you will stay overnight in teahouse. The room will not be big and luxurious, still, you will get a clean & cozy room with basic facilities. Also, there are high chances of getting common washrooms.

All the meals will be served by the menu of the teahouse. People from Tamang and Sherpa communities run these teahouses, therefore you will also get to taste their delicacies. Other then that, you will find dishes like Dal Bhat, fried rice, curries, chapatis, pasta, noodles, veggies, bakery items, etc.

In Kathmandu, you will stay in a 3-star hotel to 4-star hotel. The rooms will be on bed & breakfast terms. There will also be welcome and farewell dinner.

Langtang National Park

Langtang National Park is the natural jewel of Langtang region abundant in a range of flora & fauna. This national park has tropical and alpine forests. You will get to see a diverse variety of landscape along with many Himalayan mountains like Yala Peak, Langtang Lirung, Gangchhempo, etc inside the park.

Moreover, the highest point of the park is Langtang Lirung. Along with stunning views, the park is also home to some of the rare wildlife like black bear, Himalayan tahr, red panda, dzo as well as rare species of deers & monkeys. Similarly, the holy lake of Gosaikunda also falls under Langtang National Park where hundreds of pilgrims visit every year to worship.
