Things you should know before going on Gokyo Valley Trek

Gokyo Valley lake Trek itinerary

Gokyo Valley Trek begins with a thrilling flight to Lukla, the starting point of the trek. You then follow a steep river valley to Namche Bazaar, the gateway of the Khumbu Region. The settlement is located in a natural arena overlooking the valley with the astonishing beauty of the surrounding mountains. You take a day of rest in Namche to get accustomed to the altitude with the chance to explore the surrounding area and villages of Kunde and Khumjung.

The Gokyo trekking continues further and follows north ups the Dudh Kosi valley, with beautiful peaks surrounding the glorious setting. The comfortable lodge is next to the shorelines of the breathtaking, third lake. You enjoy this extraordinary atmosphere, and follow it up with a hike to Gokyo Ri viewpoint, before eventually beginning a peaceful journey back to Namche Bazaar and a flight from Lukla.

Gokyo Valley Trek difficulty

Gokyo Valley Lake Trek is a difficult trek. You will be trekking in the remote region on the rough trail through hillsides, dense forests, glaciers, over splashing rivers, etc. You are supposed to walk 5 to 6 hours a day on average. The trail is also not lively as lower parts and involves many ascends and descends. Likewise, the increase in altitude makes the journey more tiring and tough.

If you have previous trekking experience that you can easily go on Gokyo Trekking, however, if you are a beginner trekker then we advise you to go on short hikes and increase your muscle power as well as stamina before the trek.

Best time to go on Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Valley Trekking

Autumn (October to November) and spring (March to May) are the peak time of the year to go on Gokyo Valley Trek. The weather is mostly stable and moderate. There will be slightly cold during the morning and night time, however, the day will be more warm and lovely.

Food & Accommodation during the trek

You will be staying in either lodge or teahouse during the Gokyo Valley Trekking. Lodge has much better rooms in comparison to the tea house. Still, on average, both offer nothing lavish. You get a basic room with a few pieces of furniture, bed, blanket, and pillows. Usually, rooms are on a twin-sharing basis.

The meals will be served as per the menu of lodge/teahouse. In the lower villages, you get a good variety of food, however, in the higher altitude, the food gets limited with high in price. Especially in Namche Bazar, you can find dishes like sandwiches, pizza, momo, pasta, noodles, dal bhat, veggies, meat, curries, pastries, coffee, tea, etc.

                                Great trek to Gokyo Valley

Last week of November and December 1, 2018: grand route to the Valley of Gokyo until Gokyo Ri mt. 5,400. Perfect organization Outfitter Nepal, I would say "Swiss"! Accurate, timely, extremely available, competent and flexible in satisfying customer demands.

Diligent in responding to every need, even trivial. For me it is the second trek in Nepal, both with Outfitter Nepal, both perfect.

From driving Bhim, bearer Dan, from the owner of the agency Arjun, the last of the drivers, they are all extremely available and courteous, always ready to lend a hand and make you feel welcomed and surrounded by friends.

                                Outfitter Nepal is a guarantee!

                                Thank you!
