Seto Gumba or White Gumba or Druk Amitabha Mountain is a famous Buddhist monastery of Nepal, which is located in the Nagarjun Municipality of Kathmandu district, outside Ring Road, north side of Swayambhunath. It is situated neatly 1450 meters above sea level, and one can hike or take a taxi or a bus to reach this place.

This place can be considered as a little heaven on earth, which has a breathtaking view from the uphill. This place is suitable for those who are seeking solitude in the lap of mother nature. With the monastery behind, one can dive into oneself can feel the complete calmness and peace within. It is the monastery, which is run by Nuns and is open to the general public on Saturdays only.

This place is a perfect example of Tibetan architecture and culture along with the immense natural beauty of the valley. There are a lot of beautiful paintings, murals, waterfalls, statues, and small water fountains inside the monastery. Along with that, one can come to this place to learn meditation and Buddhism.

This monastery lies on the top of the hills from where one can see the mesmerizing view of the Kathmandu Valley. If there is clear weather, one can also enjoy beautiful views of the mountain range at a far distant. It is considered to be the second best place to observe the sunrise and sunset after Nagarkot near Kathmandu valley.

Current situation of Seto Gumba

After the devastating earthquake struck Nepal, this place remained closed for a certain period of time as many parts of the monastery were destroyed. No one is allowed to enter gumba as the reconstruction work is still being carried on.

How to reach Seto Gumba?

There are two ways to reach this place, one is from Halchowk, and the other is from Sitapaila. One can opt for going there with a vehicle or reaching there by hiking. It generally takes nearly 20- 30 minutes by vehicle to reach there.

Entering the gumba

There is an entrance fee for everyone while entering the monastery, which is NPR 40. Apart from that if one decides to reach there by vehicle one should park the vehicle as directed by the guard and then is provided by a token slip which generally costs NPR 10.
